A SPECIAL MENTION

Lyder recently on a session hosted by GiGi FM on NTS Radio:

Did we mention that Popp is “a magician”?

You deserve a spanking if you still haven’t watched our video 🫵👇

POLYGONIA & SIMON POPP [SQUAMA]

Polygonia never hid her fascination for Jazz, whose musical approach fuels her creativity among plenty of other sources, but not only. In 2022, along with Niklas Bühler and Moritz Stahlshe, she launched the Jazz project Lyder with two releases on the legendary label Jazz-o-Tech: “Vivacity EP” and its remixed version. We also have in mind her brilliant improvisation with the sax on Bühler’s music for Monument in 2021.

“Candid” is therefore not a new direction but a nice follow-up to this facet of her “multidisciplinary art”. It features this time experimental drummer Simon Popp, a true magician behind the percussions.

The duo fuses acoustic and electronic sounds using Neo Jazz codes: a very perceptible improvisation which – unlike pure musique concrète – is framed with rhythmic and bass tones. It is also defined by the accomplice sonic dialogue between the two musicians, by the emphasis on Polygonia’s creative vocals (enchanting!), by Popp’s metallic experimental touch, and by the overall modern feel from the fusion.

Okay, but what does that bring?
A U T H E N T I C I T Y

And “authenticity”, coupled with talent, dear music lover, is eventually the most direct path to your heart, in every artistic domain from cinema to music…

Then, of course, your taste is also in place to evaluate the pieces, but if like us, you enjoy tribal music and give careful attention to the details of these tracks, you might feel what we felt: the humility in front of artists that are at the forefront of today’s most exciting avant-garde…

FROM THE VAULT
RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST

NOTE: First, out of gratitude, we surprise the artists who have accepted to be our guest writers from the 44th to the 63rd selection, by sharing what we humbly consider to be their top work.

Do you remember “Den”? Then below, an interesting interview…

PATTRN [INITIATE RECORDS]

Music is not what you may currently hear in Pattrn’s house, but rather hammer hits, as he recently turned into a carpenter to build a dope studio. Being a complete producer, with high artistic, sound engineering and networking skills, we bet that the construction is very promising. It’s for him one step further to live his passion, and “passionate” is the least to say, as he breathes music all day long. Need a proof? He not only contributed with a (long) comment in our 52nd selection, but also added a whole review…

In his young discography, we still have in mind “Bridges”, released in 2022 on his label, whose broken beats brought so much freshness to our aesthetic. The release features a remix from legend Mullaert and one from Erd before he produced the incredible EP “Den“, also on Initiate.

Wishing Pattrn and all these talented musicians a long artistic life, for the good of our scene.
