A SPECIAL MENTION

From Portland in the West side (The Body) to New York City in the East side (Dis Fig)

THE BODY & DIS FIG
[THRILL JOCKEY]

If you felt that the previous section kicked you out of your comfort zone, it is just a morning breeze compared to the twister which is about to hit your face…

If you succeed in “our challenge”, you will be awarded, as “redemption” is what you may experience during the listening. Achieve it by letting the worst of you exhale out of your darkest side thanks to the potent incantations of our three American exorcists: The Body, including guitarist Chip King and drummer Lee Buford, and Dis Fig at the vocals; the angel to follow amidst the chaos…

The album, that we qualify as “trip-hop under adrenaline”, stepping out of our usual box, has been selected for the LIFE injected into the sound. You will hate it or love it, but hopefully, it will inspire the few producers among you who tend to create too-flat tracks to break their chains, realising that Art is first and foremost an emotional expression…

FROM THE VAULT
RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST

She’s first and foremost a DJ; here’s her last mix, out last week:

Then, a little selection among her last beautiful tracks:

HYDRANGEA
[ANNULLED MUSIC]

It is time to release the tension after the deluge of darkness from the previous releases. As you know, “quieter tracks” don’t necessarily mean “flat tracks”. Let us insist on this. For us, it has more to do with creativity than energy. “Life” can loom up in front of your inner jungle like a roaring tiger, through the intensity of music from artists such as The Body, introduced above, Lemna or Blòt Heathen. Yet “life” can also subtly lie in the teeming microcosm of the forest, under the leaves, as felt in the complex music from Cio D’Or, Valentino Mora or Feral.

We affectionally call Hydrangea “our hypnotic Amélie Poulain” (if you don’t have the reference to the French movie, think of Tim Burton). More than being well-inspired artistically, she is inhabited with a natural romanticism, not pink, but black, poetic with character and musical intelligence. This is particularly obvious in “Dawn Lights”, our favourite work from her, minimal and subtly impactful. Feel the warm smoothened frequencies and enjoy falling into her intriguing yet comforting musical arms…
