FROM THE VAULT
RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST

Released in 2021, the album shall not be used for a podcast, as it came out on Columbia Records and Sony Music, particularly febrile on copyright infringement…

“Amazônia” is also a technical prodigy, as Jarre integrated a smart 3D effect in the binaural version, which  you can experience here:

JEAN-MICHEL JARRE [COLUMBIA/SONY MUSIC]

Our nose is so deep into the underground scene, that sometimes, we are embarrassed about not knowing what respectable big names such as Richie Hawtin, Robert Hood or Jean-Michel Jarre have been into in the past years. Happily, at times, some music lovers fill the gap of our ignorance by sharing a release we were unaware of. In this case, it’s the one & only Dino Sabatini, so passionate that in the middle of a chat, he shared “Amazônia” with us, out of nowhere. Typical Dino…

“Amazônia” is probably one of the most immersive experiences we’ve been into, on the forestal side of atmospheric music. While reminding works from Dominick Fernow (via his alias “Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement”), Adhémar and Richard Devine, the album is originally a score for an exhibition on the Brazilian Amazon, by photographer and filmmaker Sebastião Salgado.

Rarely the jungle has been so well-depicted musically. We have its rich life, illustrated by the numerous elements of field recording, gathered from archives of Geneva’s Museum of Ethnography. We have the tension, built in the sudden changes of moods; light VS dark, quiet VS threatening… With all that, “Amazônia” is definitely an artefact of the jungle…
