A SPECIAL MENTION
The two artists already collaborated on a track for a charity VA:
While RTMTS’ background is clearly on the industrial side:
KEEN DISTRESS [INNER TENSION]
At first, you would say that many releases this week could have won today’s selection, but “Overshadowed” is not “just a release”. Behind Keen Distress are two heavyweight boxers. On the left side, Blazej Malinowski: two decades in the DJ ring in more than 30 countries, dozens of musical victories through electrifying podcasts and productions. He’s known for his “meticulous punches” in each sonic combat. On the right side, Robert Matysiak AKA RTMTS: a promising newcomer in the production, with more than five years of industrial techno uppercuts on the turntables. So you have Malinowski’s deepness on one side, and RTMTS’s (smart!) chaos on the other: this is Keen Distress, a very complementary duo.
If you listen to their first release in full: “massive” is what comes to mind first, not “arrogant”, the contrary of what Malinowski is for anyone who knows him, but “charismatic”: the two Polish friends have succeeded in bringing deep vibes with a high emotional response, impressive enough to trigger in us an instant artistic knockout. To play “at your own risk” 🙂
FROM THE VAULT
RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST
NOTE: First, out of gratitude, we surprise the artists who have accepted to be our guest writers from the 44th to the 63rd selection, by sharing what we humbly consider to be their top work.
Do you remember this incredible livestream in which Oslon participated, with F-on & Laura BCR?
PS: Oslon also contributed to our series of charts, with a great overview of South Korea’s emblematic releases: click here.
DOLTZ [HUINALI RECORDINGS]
Today, we thank Jong-min Lee AKA Oslon for having contributed to our 47th selection. Unlike the previous episodes, we are not dealing here with a producer, but with a talented DJ who dedicates most of his life to his two labels: Oslated, a contraction between “Oslon” and “curated”, and Huinali Recordings, with “Huinali” meaning “wet firewood” in Korean. Therefore, it made more sense for us to prioritise our favourite release from his two projects.
Except if you’ve been living in a cave for the past six years, you know well the two labels and how difficult it is to make a choice among their numerous golden gems. However, Doltz, “our winner”, is very worthy of praise, for the poetic art that he systematically injects in his music, mind-expanding and brilliantly designed.
With fabulous works on emblematic labels such as Annulled, Agos, Muzan or Oslated, the Japanese artist built a solid reputation, and “Koquu” came for us as his most immersive work: a sublime journey to the rich outdoors of his home county, with two fabulous remixes.
