Qeone – Glyphs : Wood [Qeone, 2023-06-07]

VARIOUS ARTISTS

Forests cover 30% of the world’s land. They are what we see, what we want, what we love. They are always around, in the silence or in the tempest, in the sunlight or in the gloom. They have neither rule nor law; only familiar perfumes, sounds and colours. They are temples, made of living pillars whispering peaceful words. They throne upon our shadows, blown by the wind. They are inside each of us: the sap, rising under their bark, is captive yet invincible, like our deepest dreams, which strengthen our lives… They are “them”, they are “us”. They are poetically symbolised in “glyphs of wood”…

Caldera – Casual Transcendence EP [Flippen Disks, 2023-06-11]

TRIBAL TECHNO

Not sure how to interpret the title “Casual Transcendence”: maybe an invitation to experience the sacred “transcendence”, but in socks, like the ones that the wacky Dutch label sells in its Bandcamp Merch section? Or maybe a journey (“Ground Miles”) to ayahuasca’s world (“Strange Brew”), alienating the vision (“Styte”) for your own good (it’s “casual” bro!)? Or maybe… Nah, let’s just stick to the substances.

Miùson – Chromesthesia [Self-released, 2023-06-09]

Komorebi Festival in North Italy, this year from July 21 to 23.

If your mind needs to be more corrupted: CloudCore’s last single:

TRIBAL TECHNO

A first listen might make you feel some similarities with Caldera’s EP, as if we were extending the sunny trip on purpose, to corrupt your mind… Well, that’s not totally wrong. Yet, if you play the tracks in full, you’ll experience another type of musical vortex: more complex, artistically mature and unveiling Miùson’s incredible talent…

The Italian maestro (yes, another Italian) originally comes from the DJ world; he showed talent straight from his first podcast in 2015 and built nothing less but a festival in 2022; the intimate Komorebi, inviting mainly local artists, such as a certain Peter Van Hoesen…

In 2021, he joined the side of production with a very immersive EP on Profundo Collective, followed by a beautiful deep album on Diffuse Reality, as well as a few collabs.

“Chromesthesia” is his third solo project. It conceptualises the transformation of colours into music, which explains the stunning artwork. Yet we have to tell you, dear Miùson, we see much more than colours in your sublime EP……

Mersel – ɲiho EP [Cinus, 2023-06-09]

TRIBAL TECHNO

Sure, the sun is hot and shining. Sure, you are on the beach. Sure, the sand slips through your fingers. But it doesn’t have to be positive and festive all the time: don’t you also enjoy complaining, judging, hating? You wear sunglasses: you know that light is not always good!!

Join the (French) dark forces with Mersel from Paris, you might be surprised: if you listen carefully to the music, track after track, you might realise that the seemingly first gloomy sensation in fact hides deeper ancestral tribal energies…

Have no fear, come closer…

👈 Mersel is also a talented DJ…

Civilistjävel! – The Järnnätter Remixes [Felt, 2023-05-09]

Don’t miss the original album…

VARIOUS ARTISTS

If Berlin is usually a high reference in electronic music, it is maybe forgetting too fast that Sweden currently dominates the techno market, with mainstream “They-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named” labels, but not only, with also valuable imprints of our niche scene, such as Hypnus, Northern Electronics, Navigare Audio, Parabel, Kontra Musik and Nordanvind. In fact, Sweden has so much music to offer that it’s pretty common to find hidden local gems when turning Bandcamp’s pages. Take Civilistjävel! for instance: evolving under the radar, he designed “Järnnätter” last year, which is for us one of the country’s most impressive monuments of minimalism. Today, it is reinterpreted by two interesting artists: A Made Up Sound from The Hague, who left his electro-house rhythms to design a breathtaking “Consumed-like” ambience, and Ossia from Bristol, who resurrected the frenetic radio signals of the musique concrète… Sweden is inspiring…

Sunday Bath – Body Immersion [Secuencias Temporales, 2023-06-05]

Awww, Roma…

AMBIENT TECHNO

If Sweden is usually a high reference in electronic music, it is maybe forgetting too fast that Italy currently dominates the deep techno market (😜), thanks to labels that “Shall-All-Be-Named” with enthusiasm, emotion, excitation, passion, pride, admiration, fascination and – briefly – love.

It’s simple, there is not one article where we don’t mention Italy (almost)…

Sunday Bath from Roma is originally an abstract hip-hop beatmaker, who turned ambient last year.

Sure, his present EP came out on a Mexican Label, but it’s quite common for Italian producers: they are so good that they export themselves worldwide, including to Mexico, and to Sweden……..

Clarence Rise – Splinter Rework [Indefinite Pitch, 2023-06-08]

Rise is based in Epinal, France…

VARIOUS ARTISTS

When Clarence Rise doesn’t sleep or eat, he spends most of his time in his spaceship: a playground with modular synths, invaded by flashing buttons and cables. It’s not totally true: he sometimes changes this activity to mix hot sets in the company of Jeff Mills, DJ Nobu or Kangding Ray…

He does it with profound humility and kindness, so with the present EP, we imagine him having been very happy to have remixes from such great names, who are among the current top artists of the atmospheric techno scene.

Unsurprisingly, the tracks are well-produced, well-ordered also in the VA, to experience a journey which nicely builds up, offering interesting reinterpretations of Rise’s work.

We invite you now to play a thrilling ping-pong game between the original and remixed versions to compare them. No winner in our humble opinion, just dope music…

Martin Nonstatic – Pulsatille [Ultimae, 2023-06-09]

More beautiful music from the Dutch maestro…

ELECTRONICA

Throughout human history, we have learned that we have mainly three “tools” at the service of our well-being: the physical, the mental and the energies. The more expert we become at using these “tools”, the more impactful our lives can be. We see brutality, cruelty and wickedness all around us, but the way these emotions affect us is directly linked to how strong our three “tools” are. There is an adage saying that “Angels are not touched by problems, thanks to their brilliance, and animals are also not touched by problems, thanks to their lack of brilliance”: human beings are somewhere in-between…

Release after release, Ultimae, with its perfection, both artistic and technical, draws a line between “the void” and “the light”. The artists of the label, throwing their heart and soul into every part they create for the project, succeed in bringing us with them on the lift to “the light”. Some do it more than others, such as Martin Nonstatic from The Netherlands…

Thank you…
