MARTIN ALLIN
[CIRCULAR LIMITED]
In our interview with Cio D’Or for Orb Mag, she shared an anecdote meaningful to her. During a performance in Tokyo in 2009, she and Mike Parker followed a warm-up DJ who played only ambient music. The Japanese audience was deeply mesmerised by this genre, prompting Cio D’Or to continue with ambient music as well. At one point, she dropped the first kicks, and people totally freaked. She affirmed that this build-up was far more interesting than the traditional four-to-the-floor techno pattern. This simple yet beautiful cohesive moment partly served as inspiration for how she introduces or concludes her music…
If you take the time to listen to “Mind in Midair” in full, you may experience the exact same exhilaration that Cio D’Or alluded to when the first kick hits within the second track. Furthermore, the EP’s sound design is astonishing, evoking Ultimae‘s exceptional technical prowess. The author, Martin Allin from Denmark, is new to Circular Limited, but this is his third release. Lurking on scores for videos, he already showed in his two first works his talent for creating “ambient and techno music that has a meaning”, specifically thanks to a well-thought cinematic approach.
On her side, Polygonia, also on IO’s recent VA, perfectly understood the language of “Mind in Midair,” to produce one of her most exceptional remixes to date. Additionally, Warmth contributed his signature touch by incorporating timeless and ethereal sound waves…
FROM THE VAULT
RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST
His previous work as Urstadt, a duo with Mike Wunderblock:
The “cosmic microwave background”…
RELIC RADIATION
[ANNULLED MUSIC]
As a remnant of the primordial universe, the “relic radiation” (or “cosmic microwave background”) has fascinated scientists for decades. Equally captivating for us is the Polish artist of the same name, whom we don’t talk about enough in this blog. It is however fair to mention that he is not very active musically, having produced his last solo work in 2018, and a collaborative EP in January last year.
While he’s the owner of La Notte Di Architetto, mainly to release his own stuff, it’s on Annulled Music that he came up with “Ambiguity” in 2017, which, for us, is a monument of hypnotic techno.
Like Svarog, Shifted, Undveld or even Claudio PRC in some tracks, Relic Radiation belongs to a guild of artists who are particularly connected to the “sound of the cave”, with its haunting reverberated atmospheres.
However, the artist’s name is a great reminder that the influence mainly comes from further away in space, and we cannot deny that in “Ambiguity”, he successfully represented the white noise of the “cosmic microwave background”…
