Particularly well-respected in our community, Notzing is a Madrid-based producer and live act, whose work stands at the intersection of hypnotic techno and emotional intensity. Drawing from the Spanish School’s minimalist tradition, he adds a distinctive twist, often through the use of charismatic drones on top of industrial textures.
In fact, behind his project, Notzing views sound as a medium for altered perception, using modular synthesis and processed loops to explore subconscious states. Founder of the Knotzept label, where he releases most of his music, he also contributes to several respected imprints, such as Circular Limited and Northallsen Records. In 2023, he designed an incredible page for The Memoir by Hypnus, while his SoundCloud is a treasure trove of extraordinary live performances. If you’d like to see him live, don’t miss his 2020 performance broadcast by the freetekno Uzumaki collective.
Across all his projects, he crafts memorable sonic narratives that blur the line between ritual and experimentation. The chart he shares today reflects a sharp and cultivated ear for underground electronic music, with each selection revealing a deep understanding of the genre’s most refined expressions.
THEMATIC SELECTION
CLASSIC
Jan (Unit Moebius) & Curley – Acid Breaker Part 2 [Oxalis, 1994]
Notzing: This record, for me, is one of the cornerstones of avant-garde electronic music and far ahead of its time. It defined what I consider the “mental sound” of the Freetekno scene, a true gem that has shaped many of the sounds we hear today.
DEEP
Abdulla Rashim – Endasilasie 1 [Abdulla Rashim Records, 2012]
Notzing: The track itself is astonishingly Lo-Fi, yet deeply atmospheric. It’s cold, and yet warm at the same time. The sound of wandering through a radioactive wasteland. Daily listen.
MENTAL
Donato Dozzy – Automa Talos [Semantica Records, 2015]
Notzing: Donato Dozzy and Retina.it created one of my favourite Semantica releases, a pinnacle of repetitive music. It’s raw, dark, and mental. The old-school sound reminds me of many esoteric Freetekno releases.
DARK
CinderVOMIT – Har Har Mahadev [Sacred Sound, 2025]
Notzing: This record is a collaboration between the mysterious producer CinderVOMIT and other artists from the darkpsy and experimental psycore scene. For me, it represents the pinnacle of slambient and what I consider a psychedelic evolution of dark ambient. Highly recommended for open minds.
EXPERIMENTAL
Korridor – Parallel [Self-released, 2021]
Notzing: The entire album is fascinating. It draws inspiration from unsolved mathematical problems and applies them through the Python module CalcWave, allowing sound design via mathematical formulas. Experimental in concept, yet never pretentious or inaccessible.
DOPE BASSLINE
Abdulla Rashim – Moral Blinds [Northern Electronics, 2014]
Notzing: One of my favourite tracks is defined by its bass. I love how it enters and how it blends with other tracks. Perfectly recognisable, it feels like bouncing through a cloud. This bass rumbles in the chest, but also in the mind.
DREAMY
Stanislav Tolkachev – Future [Semantica Records, 2013]
Notzing: This track is my favourite by Tolkachev. As a whole, it sounds like a dreamscape. Every time I listen, it feels like a glimpse into madness, as if awakening in The Hourglass Sanatorium [Ed.: reference to a 1973 surrealist film].
TO START A MIX
Mike Parker – Chronogram [Spazio Disponibile, 2020]
Notzing: A true statement of intent for controlling the listener’s mind. It can be mixed, filtered, processed, looped… exactly how I would want to open any set. Naturally, it’s the work of Master Mike Parker.
FOR THE PEAK TIME
Rrose – Omertá (Version) [Eaux, 2016]
Notzing: Listening to this track sober feels like ingesting multiple psychoactive substances at once. I think it’s the perfect 3 AM track to melt the crowd. Whether I’ll ever experience it live is another question; I’ve yet to find a DJ daring enough to play it.
BONUS – TOPIC BROUGHT BY OUR GUEST
SOUND DESIGN
Rrose – Incisors [Eaux, 2018]
Notzing: When it comes to techno and sound design, this track, for me, takes the crown. It’s no wonder Rrose is my favourite artist. Every time I listen, the track gives me goosebumps and reveals new nuances. I can’t explain what’s happening, I just melt into the sound.
