19TH CHART – MARTYN PÄSCH

Although it shall be nuanced, mainly two types of artists are observed in the hypnotic techno scene: those who “visit” art and those who “embrace” art. Individuals in the first category are highly influenced by trends, often lack self-assurance, eventually engage in experimentation, but need the opinions of others. Martyn Päsch clearly belongs to the second category: a guild of artists with clear artistic vision, expressed with unwavering confidence.

Hailing from Mexico, Päsch is an artist who doesn’t merely create music; he breathes life into it. His soul resonates through every beat, every melody, crafting very personal atmospheric techno, electronica and ambient symphonies. As a DJ, his mix for MFIS is particularly representative of his love and dedication to the sound. As a producer, we owe him some masterpieces, including “Baseless,” “Deep Distance,” and “7 du jour.”

In 2018, Päsch’s passion led him to establish KVLTÖ Records, a sanctuary for deep hypnotic techno, in his image. Beyond the label, he also runs Linee Sonore, a small label and free premiering service, which reflects his high generosity towards the community and its members. His journey is not just about music; it’s about a relentless pursuit of beauty and depth, as sensed in his uncompromising chart below.

THEMATIC SELECTION

CLASSIC

Truncate – Ratio (Luis Flores Remix) [Self-released, 2013]

Martyn Päsch: This track represents great stories throughout musical knowledge since Luis Flores is an icon in the Mexican techno scene and Truncate, an international techno legend. This collaboration made a boom in various clubs. The synergy of rhythmic elements and percussions evokes different scenarios.

DEEP

BLNDR – Mental Stretching (Luigi Tozzi Remix) [Hypnus, 2014]

Martyn Päsch: This track combines different elements that connect the atmospheres with the environments where you are, The sound is soft and well-managed, with textures that enhance the overall experience.

MENTAL

Abdulla Rashim – Asayita 1 [Self-released, 2011]

Martyn Päsch: In this track, Abdulla Rashim created an infinite loop with intricate bass elements that seamlessly blend with the atmospheric layers. The track’s touch enhances its overall impact.

DARK

Sven Wittekind – Disturbed [Sick Weird Rough, 2011]

Martyn Päsch: One of my favourite tracks for 12 years where the dark sounds and the bass frequency can still be felt and it is ideal for each of us to be able to listen to this track since it transports you directly to old times.

EXPERIMENTAL

Null & Vermiculite – Murk [Aedi Records, 2021]

Martyn Päsch: The ideal structure between the experimental and the hypnotic is demonstrated in this key piece where the somewhat broken kicks stand out a lot but also the frequencies that are the keys to recreate this track that in particular can be fundamental in a live set or a podcast.

DOPE BASSLINE

Skymn – Bonfire [Hypnus, 2015]

Martyn Päsch: I have always imagined that I would play this track in front of the entire audience while they dance and become hypnotized by the sequence of a creation that has a fairly solid structure and that can be part of each of us, whether in a club or in the forest.

OLD SCHOOL

DJ Rolando – Jaguar [Underground Resistance, 2020]

Martyn Päsch: I think that, beyond being a piece from the old school, it could also be defined as an anthem created by the great DJ Rolando. Different musical elements are mixed, evoking memories of a time when something very underground sounded like “Jaguar.”

TO START A MIX

Nthng – Son [Lobster Theremin, 2021]

Martyn Päsch: For me, this track represents a work of art that can open a live show or be simply seen as a perfect sonic creation. “Son” is a magical representation of environmental silhouettes with a very deep narrative. It makes us create a story in the mind or simply something from daily life, straight from Nthng’s sound.

FOR THE PEAK TIME

Celestial Rituals – Invoke (Ness Remix) [Informa Records, 2019]

Martyn Päsch: Listening to this track transports you to grand rituals where elements such as flutes and resonant harmonies play in the ears. For me, this piece of music is fundamental, because it demonstrates great strength and goes beyond something merely hypnotic. I believe the use of these elements is magical to experience.

BONUS – TOPIC BROUGHT BY OUR GUEST

SPECIAL

Evigt Mörker – Högre [Self-released, 2013]

Martyn Päsch: For me, this is a great musical composition that recreates natural scenarios based on the harmony and happiness they can transmit. This track is pure magic in every sense of the word, as it transports you to your childhood or reminds you of fun games with your son. In my case, being able to play “Högre” gives me both joy and nostalgia. I could describe this track as being between harmony, mysticism, and depth without fitting into a specific genre, as it is enjoyed at all times.
