A SPECIAL MENTION
Chef Muñoz evaluating Jorick’s liquid beef (Top Chef 🇫🇷 S15E13):
Play this old video to see how creative Dr.Nokoke also is…
A more recent live act from Dr.Nojoke:
DR.NOJOKE [ARCHIPEL MUSIQUE CANADA]
This year, the French edition of the cooking show Top Chef welcomed David Muñoz again, the “enfant terrible” from Madrid. Each time, he challenges the contestants to blow up codes and revolutionise the art of the tasting. Thus, one recreated a “painting” that you can eat, with the message “Thank you grandpa” revealed behind, as a reference to past family museum visits. The winner, on his side, turned three meals – starter, main course and dessert – into liquid, symbolising an apocalyptic future. This is “high creativity” at the service of “a message”.
If Dr.Nojoke had been a cook, he would for sure enjoy such challenges. “Sounding differently” is intentional for the German artist, who bases his art on “rethinking the ordinary”, which he explained in an interview as “questioning everything and then finding solutions”. Thus, “Fuso”, on Pheek’s dub techno label Archipel, stands out for not following the trends. It rather proposes new deep dreamy sonorities, experimental yet accessible and beautiful. With elegant artwork, the release, creative and well-designed (and well-mastered by Pheek himself), brings a fresh poetic breeze to the abstract techno realm.
Dr.Nojoke has been producing for over two decades. In his live acts, he combines groovy minimal house and techno with lots of field recordings, in an aesthetic (& label) that he dubs “clikno” (“clicks and techno”).
If you enjoy “Fuso”, we highly recommend digging into his discography, full of gems. The EP is a new verse to his sonic cookbook; an inspiring recipe to keep the creative torch burning.

RESURRECTING A DOPE RELEASE FROM THE PAST
Best video “to feel” Hong Kong…
If you are looking for a more recent work from Henke:
MONOLAKE [CHAIN REACTION TO FIELD RECORDS]
Hongkong has a soul, from its dynamic crowded streets to its breathtaking surrounding nature, from its infinite number of modern skyscrapers coexisting with traditional buildings, from its manga-alike trams to its delicious culinary offerings, from its kind and elegant inhabitants to its festivals of metal and underground electronic music.
Therefore, no surprise that China’s safest city – and its neighbour Macao – inspired so much Monolake. The duo, featuring Gerhard Behles and Robert Henke, visited the place in 1996 to attend the annual International Computer Music Conference. Passionate about computer-based music, they used MaxMSP to program a DAW for themselves, before considering turning it into a product for sale: that’s how Ableton came to life in 1999, prompting Behles to leave the duo in 2001 to dedicate himself entirely to the development of the renowned software.
Containing lots of field recordings from Hong Kong’s area, and representing its flag on the artwork, the album came out in 1997 on Basic Channel’s seminal sub-label Chain Reaction. If Henke’s music became more complex afterwards, the album significantly impacted the ambient minimal techno genre: hit play to experience the early bricks of the “headphone electronic music”…
